Building a blueprint for what luxury sustainable tourism looks like in Africa, starting in The Gambia.
About USL Technology
USL Technology is an NYC- and Gambian-based, minority and woman-owned enterprise specialized in sustainable building and technology consulting with offerings in energy management, energy code compliance and LEED certification, and supporting clients with decarbonization projects through financing and implementation plans. In NYC, USL aligns its work with the Climate Mobilization Act’s goals where it focuses in providing energy efficient and affordable housing to underserved communities most vulnerable and impacted by climate change.
USL Technology aims to extend its work and values into the founder’s home country of The Gambia, where it is steering the development of two luxury sustainability resorts in The Gambia for Camara-Goddard Hotel Group. The Group is part of a vision to give back to the African continent and foster sustainable development imperatives from every sector to create organic change and opportunity for Africans. From using the most advanced building certifications, such as LEED and EDGE, to ensure minimal environmental impact and climate resiliency, to partnering with local government and organizations to hire and train locally, the vision for what the next era of sustainable hospitality can look like starts now.
Challenge
As a new company seeking investment from multilateral lending institutions, private donors and impact investors, the Camara-Goddard Hotel Group required its foundational marketing strategy, branding approach and a portfolio of outreach collateral to secure a robust base of supporters and participants in its pioneering vision of transforming what sustainable tourism can be in the African continent.
Deliverables
PPWA completed a market analysis for impact-oriented grants, equipped with market sizing, trends analysis and user personas. It also built the Group’s initial branding, marketing materials and fundraising strategy tailored to philanthropic organizations, private donors, corporate responsibility initiatives and impact investors.
Results
Utilizing PPWA deliverables and recommendations, the Camara-Goddard Hotel Group is on track for funding its first phase of development, which includes build plans, site analyses and feasibility studies. The completion of phase one will enable the intended milestone of raising a significant amount of funding for phase two, which includes breaking ground for construction in late 2025.
